Masseter Botox in Laguna Niguel: Jaw Slimming and Clenching Relief
Our Team

Some people come in asking for Botox for their forehead. Others come in because they wake up with a sore jaw, or because their face looks wider and squarer than it used to. That second group is often talking about the masseter, and it is one of the more interesting conversations we have at Enclave Med Spa in Laguna Niguel.
What Are the Masseters?
Your masseters are the strong chewing muscles at the back of your jaw, just in front of your ears. Clench your teeth and you can feel them pop. In people who clench or grind, often during sleep or under stress, these muscles can become bulkier over time. That can make the lower face look broader and can leave the jaw feeling tight or achy.
How Neuromodulators Help
A neuromodulator such as BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® can be injected into the masseter to relax it. With the muscle working less, two things can happen:
- A slimmer lower face. Over several weeks, the muscle gradually gets smaller, which can soften a square jawline into a more tapered shape.
- Less clenching tension. Many patients notice their jaw feels less tight.
One honest note: using neuromodulators in the masseter is considered off-label in the U.S. That is common in aesthetic practice, and it is exactly why a careful medical evaluation matters. If you have TMJ pain, jaw clicking or significant grinding, we may also suggest you check in with your dentist, since a night guard or other care can be part of the picture.
What to Expect From Treatment
The injections take just a few minutes, a few points on each side of the jaw. Most people say it feels like quick pinches. There is no real downtime.
This treatment rewards patience. You may feel less clenching within a week or two, but visible slimming usually takes about four to eight weeks as the muscle gradually shrinks. Many patients repeat treatment every few months at first, and some find they can stretch the time between visits as results build.
How Many Units Will I Need?
Masseters are strong muscles, so they typically take more units than smaller areas like the frown lines. The exact dose depends on muscle size, how strongly you clench, and whether your goal is slimming, tension relief or both. Your injector will feel the muscle while you clench and give you an estimate before treatment.
Is It Right for You?
Masseter treatment can be a great fit if you have a wide or square lower face from muscle bulk, or if you notice clenching. It is not the right tool if the width comes mostly from bone structure or fat, and it is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. A consultation will sort out which is which.
